The Universal Declaration of Human Rights turns 60 this year and to celebrate this anniversary the 61st Annual DPI/NGO Conference has chosen the theme "Reaffirming Human Rights: The Universal Declaration at 60."
This 61st Annual DPI/NGO Conference has been organized by the United Nations Department of Public Information in cooperation with the NGO community, this year with the assistance of the United Nations Educational Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO), the Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights and the Government of France.
The Conference took place 3-5 September at the UNESCO Headquarters at UNESCO’s Headquarters, attracting more than 2,000 NGO representatives from some 90 countries.
The Declaration is the first universal statement on the basic principles of the human rights to which peoples of all nations are entitled.
Eugen Brand, Director General, International Movement ATD Fourth World, was one of the speakers in the Round Table Session 2 on Thursday 4, September : "Overcoming Discrimination to Realize Human Rights and Dignity for All"
