Campus
A gathering based on the presentation of studies and research where knowledge gained from action, knowledge born of life experience and academic knowledge meet one another.
Father Joseph Wresinski, 1962
Campus is the annual seminar of the Research and Training Institute of the International Movement ATD Fourth World. It gathers academics and people at the grassroots level, so that they can share their research and questions. Campus invites academics to have their goals and their experience of research and study be questioned and shaken by the expectations of the very poor and the people who support them. Campus seeks to enable an exchange between research and studies, between the experience gained through commitment on the field and the knowledge that people who live in poverty can bring. When it is possible, people who themselves have the experience of poverty will also participate.
Campus is also a convivial space. All the participants live together for one week at the international headquarters of ATD Fourth World in Méry sur Oise, France. This type of participation enables each person to engage in several subjects and fields of investigation.
Campus is an international event held in several languages. French, English and Spanish are currently the three official languages.
Campus 2003 The first Campus seminar was held in 2003 and was based on more than 40 years of dialogue between ATD Fourth World and the academic world. Subsequent Campus seminars have allowed participants to experience these gatherings not only a source of mutual training but also the renewal of their thinking, their methodologies, and their approaches. The presence of an audience of people from diverse backgrounds and experiences guarantees a dialogue both open and rooted in reality.
