The Limits of the Status of Victim

June 7, 2017: The City’s Outcasts in Search of their History

Presentation by Evelyne Mevius

Evelyne de Mevius is an Assistant in Ethics at the University of Geneva in Switzerland

These presentation is a reflection on the limits of the status of victims granted by Swiss law, particularly in reference to two legal texts cited by Ms. Blunschi in her presentation.

A legal recognition of the status of victim allows for reintegration into society, which is an important process for overcoming a sense of guilt. But we must also be able to reflect on how to go beyond the status of victim to not rest frozen in a victimized history or identity.
