SUMMARY:Interconnectedness: From Global/Regional Commitments to National/Local Realities — A Focus on Senegal
DESCRIPTION:This event is part of the webinar series: \n“I was born. I exist. Add me to the list.” \nAccelerating birth registration for the hardest-to-reach populations — those living in poverty \nChair: Bhaskar Mishra\, UNICEF \n\nOverview of the global and regional legal frameworks on birth registration (for example\, the Convention on the Rights of the Child and the African Charter on the Rights and Welfare of the Child) and how binding recommendations from these committees are (or are not) being translated into national policies and legislation in Senegal.\nOverview of those being left behind in birth registration. Profiles of children missed out in birth registration provide insights into the barriers to reach out and help devise appropriate strategies to expand coverage and ensure that these children enjoy their basic right to get their birth registered. (African Child Policy Forum)\nContribution by children and families living in poverty of their unique insights and their lived experience. What barriers have they faced in registering births? Has anyone successfully obtained birth certificates; and\, if so\, what practical measures offered by the government or other stakeholders helped people living in poverty register births and obtain birth certificates?\nPresentation from the national agency responsible for civil registration on its national policy and how its policy aligns with regional/global frameworks\, highlighting both successes and ongoing challenges.\nAn honest assessment of the gap between global/regional commitments and national implementation. Identify pathways for more effective and practical interventions. What works and what doesn’t work? What needs to be improved?\n\n13h00 to 14h30 Paris time; 11h00 to 12h30 Dakar time; 7:00 to 8:30 a.m. New York time \nDownload the concept note for all the information.

SUMMARY:The Ethics of Care: A Webinar by PFAN & ATD
DESCRIPTION:This webinar (taking place on Zoom) aims to spark dialogue about the ethics of care between professionals and people in poverty. Some professional practice is process-driven; the ethics of care is based on human relationships and needs. It is the ethical system that defines “good” as meeting the needs of others and preserving and enriching relationships. PFAN co-chairs Tammy Mayes and Simon Haworth will draw on two examples of this kind of care: one in a school where many families struggle with poverty; and the other in the Together in Dignity programme run by ATD Fourth World. \nPFAN stands for the Parents\, Families and Allies Network\, a UK-wide group bringing together parents with experience of children’s social work\, their families and allies including social workers\, academics\, professionals in health and education and others wanting to transform children’s services through better parent participation. \nSpeakers \nSam Greasley\, Head Teacher\, Awel y Môr Primary School (in Sandfields\, Port Talbot) \nCelia Consolini\, ATD Fourth World ally
