SUMMARY:Joyful Revolution Webinar
DESCRIPTION:You are invited to a webinar conversation launching the new book\, Joyful Revolution: Poverty\, Social Justice\, and the Story of Mary Rabagliati. This book focuses on Rabagliati’s approach to human rights and social inclusion\, including people of vastly different backgrounds without demonizing anyone. On Tuesday February 17th\, at 6 pm EST\, please join us for this conversation among: \n– Christopher Winship\, Harvard professor of sociology \n– Stacy White\, an activist with lived experience of poverty \n– Diana Skelton\, author of Joyful Revolution. \nThe event will last one hour (with optional time afterwards to continue the conversation among those who wish). \nATD Fourth World USA envisions a society free from the stigma\, subjugation\, and injustice which prolong poverty; and a future where everyone thrives in dignity.

SUMMARY:Wider World Conversations
DESCRIPTION:ATD Fourth World’s virtual ‘Wider World Conversations’ began in 2023\, serving as an opportunity for individuals to develop a sense of connection to ATD Fourth World’s actions across the world\, as well as to discover and explore topics more broadly related to the wider context of social justice and anti-poverty action. \nParticipants take turns facilitating conversations\, creating safe spaces to delve into broad interests. From questions of how to communicate ethically and authentically\, to gaining an understanding of missing and murdered Indigenous women in New Mexico\, to connecting to musicians from Playing for Change\, Wider World Conversations spark thoughtful and inspiring conversations\, allow participants to share ideas\, and build a global community. \nWe are delighted to announce that\, after a brief pause in late 2025\, these conversations have resumed! \nThese conversations are open to ATD Fourth World members\, and those interested in our work — wherever in the world they’re based. We would love to welcome you into our WWCs\, so if you are interested in joining in\, please reach out to skeltond(at)atd-uk(dot)org for more information. \nEvent first published at https://atd-uk.org/2026/02/16/wider-world-conversations/ \nImage by Caitlin Sibthorpe

SUMMARY:Eradicating Poverty Beyond Growth: A Global Roadmap for a New Economy
DESCRIPTION:Register here to attend in person \nRegister here to follow online \nEradicating Poverty Beyond Growth: A Global Roadmap for a New Economy is a high-level\, international policy conference organised under the mandate of the UN Special Rapporteur on extreme poverty and human rights\, Olivier De Schutter\, as a contribution to the International Labour Organization-led Global Coalition for Social Justice. \nHeld at ILO Headquarters in Geneva\, this public event will bring together leading scholars\, diplomats\, UN officials\, policymakers\, trade unions\, employers’ organisations\, civil society organisations\, and social movements from around the world to discuss strategies to confront the intertwined crises of poverty\, inequalities and ecological breakdown\, beyond the limited imagination of economic growth orthodoxy. \n22 April 2026 – ILO\, 4 route des Morillons\, CH-1211 Geneva\nDOWNLOAD THE FULL PROGRAMME (SPEAKERS TO BE CONFIRMED) \nREGISTER TO ATTEND IN PERSON \nREGISTER TO FOLLOW ONLINE \n\nAs environmental collapse accelerates\, inequalities widen within and between countries\, and economic precarity becomes pervasive\, the long-standing assumption that economic growth alone can reduce inequalities and end poverty is falling apart. What remains is an urgent challenge: how can societies secure social justice\, economic security and human dignity without relying on a development model that deepens extraction\, exclusion and ecological harm? \nEradicating Poverty Beyond Growth: A Global Roadmap for a New Economy offers an important forum in which to discuss how moving beyond growth is not about bringing economic activity to a halt. Rather\, it requires confronting the failures of growth as it has been pursued in practice. Leading experts will take to the floor in Geneva to articulate alternative development pathways that decentre GDP as the primary measure of progress and demonstrate how social well-being and ecological integrity can be advanced through models less reliant on continuous economic expansion. \nThe event will also provide a key opportunity to engage with the Roadmap for Eradicating Poverty Beyond Growth\, co-constructed by a large number of UN agencies\, NGOs\, unions and academic experts\, who have been collaborating since 2024 to agree on proposals intended to achieve social progress and improve well-being without relying on perpetual economic growth. \nEradicating Poverty Beyond Growth: A Global Roadmap for a New Economy marks a pivotal step for the Roadmap ahead of its formal presentation to the Human Rights Council in summer 2026. As international deliberations advance on shaping the post-2030 development framework\, the event also signals a historic shift in the international community away from the false inevitabilities of growthism\, and toward economic systems grounded in the effective realisation of human rights\, well-being and ecological responsibility.
