According to a UN report, sewage kills more people than war. More than the experts on this issue, Mr Joseph is well placed to know how true this is. For more than 20 years, he has lived in a neighbourhood of informal settlements that frequently experience flooding.
From March 2018 to February 2019, 12 young people participated in a Social and Cultural Mediation training program in the Central African Republic. Organised by ATD Fourth World and its partners, the program began with its first group of young people in 2016.
The European Union is still far from the goal of eradicating poverty and social exclusion that it had set out to achieve by 2020. In 2017, poverty and social exclusion affected 113 million people across the EU. Considerable efforts are therefore needed, as improving economic conditions alone is not enough to bring about a sustainable reduction in poverty.
The dimensions are: disempowerment; suffering in body, mind, and heart; and struggle and resistance. These dimensions are very salient to people living in poverty, yet little understood across society. They are not adequately captured in current multi-dimensional poverty indices.
