Young Women on Poverty

Young Women on Poverty

For International Women’s Day 2021, ATD Fourth World celebrated extraordinary women of all ages who have either experienced poverty or lived in disadvantaged communities in order to learn from people there. For women in poverty, everyday survival is an achievement that can require exhausting effort. Yet these women also support their neighbors and community, while often having the courage to speak out against injustice.

“When people can’t fullfill their basic needs due to lack of finances, they become a victim of poverty.”

In this short video by Mati Bangladesh, young women talk about what poverty means to them. They gave their perspectives during a commemoration of World Day for Overcoming Poverty (October 17, 2020) in Mymensingh, Bangladesh.
