Understanding Poverty
Working and Thinking Together
The participation of people living in poverty is critical to its understanding and eradication. Living in poverty gives insight and firsthand knowledge that others don’t have. This makes those with lived experience of poverty essential partners to understanding it and is why, their input is critical in the design and implementation of our projects.
ATD Fourth World’s work starts with those who have lived experience of poverty. From them, we then create spaces where they and others can express themselves, dialogue, and contribute their knowledge and skillfulness, advancing issues that affect us all.
This part of our web site focuses on the projects and dynamics of involvement that empowers people in poverty to be full, active participants and partners in building a society open to all.
